National Holidays

If you are looking to make every day joyful you may want to try celebrating the National Holidays. National holidays are a wonderful way to bring people together and celebrate the unique identity and culture of a country. They offer a great opportunity to learn more about the history, traditions, and achievements of a nation. For kids, national holidays can be particularly exciting as they provide a chance to take part in fun activities, learn new things, and bond with family and friends. In this blog post, we will explore why celebrating national holidays is so much fun for kids and provide some ideas for how to make the most of these special days. There are big national Holidays like Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, and Presidents Day. However, there are also lesser known holidays like National crayon day, Star wars day, and National Pig day.

Learning about history and culture

National holidays often commemorate significant events or people in a country’s history. For example, Independence Day in the United States celebrates the nation’s declaration of independence from Great Britain in 1776. Exploring the stories behind these holidays can be an engaging way for kids to learn more about history, culture, and the values that a nation holds dear. Parents can use this opportunity to engage in conversations about their own family’s history and the values that they hold dear.

Dressing up in costumes

Many national holidays are marked by parades, festivals, and other public events where people dress up in colorful costumes and accessories. For example, during the Mexican holiday of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), kids can dress up as skeletons and other spooky characters. Halloween is another great example of a holiday where kids can have fun dressing up and wearing costumes. Read Across America week is also a great time to dress as your favorite book character. Lots of schools like to participate during this week with themed days like silly socks or crazy hair days.

Participating in traditional activities

National holidays often involve traditional activities that have been passed down from generation to generation. For example, during the Chinese New Year, families often exchange red envelopes filled with money, eat dumplings, and set off fireworks. Kids can learn about these traditions and participate in them by making their own dumplings or creating their own decorations.

Spending time with family and friends

National holidays are a time when families and friends can come together and spend quality time with each other. Kids can create lasting memories by taking part in activities like picnics, barbecues, or games. These activities can help to strengthen family bonds and create a sense of belonging.

Enjoying special treats

National holidays are often marked by special foods and treats that are only available during that time of the year. For example, during Thanksgiving in the United States, families often gather together to eat turkey, pumpkin pie, and other traditional dishes. Kids can enjoy these special treats and learn more about the history and significance of these foods.

Now it’s time to Celebrate!

In conclusion, celebrating national holidays is a wonderful way for kids to learn more about history, culture, and traditions. It provides an opportunity to spend time with family and friends. It is also a fun time to dress up in fun costumes and participate in special activities and events. As parents or teachers, we can use these holidays as a chance to teach our children about our own family’s history, values, and traditions, and to create lasting memories that will stay with them for years to come. I enjoy doing God's work from the church basement where I have been a preschool teacher for the last 18 years. My husband and I have two newly grown and flown children. Our son just graduated college and is working his dream job and my daughter just got married and is in her first year teaching preschool at our church. It is a joy to see her everyday at work.
